In part I of this series we talked about how to pack up your China, dishware, cups, and silverware. In part II, we will discuss how to pack up other parts of your dining room to ensure that each piece arrives at its new destination safely.

Packing Up Your Lamps and Chandelier

If you have lamps in your dining room, you need to pay special attention to them when packing them up. While you may think it best to move the items as a whole piece, this is not recommended.

You should take the lampshade off, remove the bulb, and prep the bottom of the lamp base to ensure a safe arrival. To start, grab the lamp base and wrap it up in bubble wrap or newspaper to provide a cushion and padding. You should secure the padding with tape.

The light bulb should be tossed out if it does not work anymore. If it does, you should place it with other bulbs you plan to take with you and wrap it in bubble wrap.

The dining room may seem like one of the easier rooms to pack in your home, but it is by far one of the most important. If you do not take the time to pack it properly, you may find that your items do not arrive the same way they left your home and you may accidentally damage some of your items.

In this part one, we will go over how you can start packing up your dining room to ensure a safe and secure move.

Packing Up Your China

To start, grab all of your China and place it on your dining room table. Go through and match like pieces with like pieces and ensure all dishware is clean and ready to be packed.

Start by wrapping all of the individual pieces in newspaper and securing the newspaper with tape. You will need to use quite a bit of newspaper to protect your fragile items, so do not worry about using up too much wrapping.

Before you decide to even organize your office, make sure that you are using the space correctly. If you have a small room and a large desk placed right into the center, then you are missing out on all the room around the desk.

If you do have a small office, you should consider using a corner desk to help maximize space in your office. You will find that the more space you have, the better. If you still find that you are lacking space, consider using vertical space as well.

How can you move to a new city before you find a place to live? You can’t. Well, you could, but living in a hotel would probably be your only option. Instead of doing this, you should attempt to find a place to live BEFORE you make your move. Below, we will go over the steps you should take to locate a new house or apartment prior to your big day.

1. Look at the Different Neighborhoods

The first step to finding a new place to live in a new city is to research the neighborhoods. You should identify which neighborhoods are where and which ones you would ideally like to live in. It is important to note that some neighborhoods will cost more than others and you should pay attention to this. You also want to make note of which neighborhoods have high crime rates and which ones are nearby to the amenities you plan to frequent.

2. Hire a Realtor

Whether you are looking for a home or an apartment, you should hire help. A relator can help you locate the perfect place to live and you will find that your realtor will do much of the grunt work while you focus on packing your items and getting ready for your move.

As you prepare to make a move, you may be wondering just how much money you need to save up for it to be possible. If you are trying to write down all of the numbers, you may find that you are stuck with different numbers and different amounts. There is an easy way to break down how much money you actually need and it will help you best prepare for your upcoming move.

1. Moving Costs

If you do not know your move date yet, you can still figure out how much it will cost you to actually move. Think about the supplies you need and think about whether you plan to do the move yourself or through a company. Once you know, you can start to collect quotes from companies.

You will need to save a LEAST this amount of money that you are quoted, but you should add a couple hundred dollars to it to ensure that you are completely prepared.

2. Security Deposits and Rent

You will likely need to place some security deposits down to turn on utilities and to rent your home or apartment. You should figure out how much the utility deposits are and then take the total amount of your move in costs and add them together.
