With all of the craziness that is going on around you, it is no surprise that you have probably let a few things slip by. Before you let too much slip right on by, let’s go over some of the basic moving day etiquette that you need to have to ensure a smooth move for you, the movers, and your neighbors.

1. Do Not Block Driveways or Access Ways

Blocking driveways and access ways is a great way to start a negative relationship with your new neighbors. You should be mindful of where you park your vehicle and the moving truck. If you do need more space than you have, consider asking your neighbors if it would be okay if you park your vehicle in front of their house for a couple of hours. The worst that can happen is they say no, but you will never know unless you try.

2. Clean Your Old Home Before Locking Up

How disappointed would you be to walk into a home and see that the tenants did not leave it clean when they left? You must keep this in mind when you move out of your home. You should take time to clean the house up and leave it in presentable condition, especially if you want to sell your home or if you want to get the deposit back on your rental.

3. Choose a Convenient Time for Your Movers

While you may want to be picky and choose the time of day that is most convenient for you, you should keep your movers in mind and choose a time that is convenient for them. Typically, movers like to make moves in the morning as it is not so hot and they are able to navigate on the roads without too much traffic. If you are adamant about an inconvenient time, you may have movers show up who are not too careful with your items or they may be in a foul mood.

4. Pick Up Any Trash

If you notice that trash falls on the ground as you are moving your items out of or into your home, make sure you pick it up. Your neighbors do not want the litter blowing into their yard and you also do not want to give the impression that you are not a cleanly person either.

5. Keep Pets and Kids Out of the Way

It can be frustrating to have to worry about pets and kids running around throughout the moving process. Do you and everyone else a favor and arrange for someone else to watch your pets and children. You will be able to rest easy knowing they are safe.
