Your Questions Answered: Common Moving FAQs
If this is your first time moving, you may have some unanswered questions that have been on your mind. If you do not know who to talk to, these questions may go unanswered and you may be left wondering just what to do.
Below, we will go over some of the most commonly asked questions and give you the answers to them.
How soon should I call the moving company?
It is best to call your moving company as soon as you have a date. While a moving appointment can be made at any time, you will have a larger selection of days and times if you plan early and call early.
When should I move?
There are both good and bad times to move. Your moving company would probably prefer that you do NOT choose a summer move, because, well, it’s hot and it is busy. If summer is your only option, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment, just know it will be rough on your movers.
How does the company decide how much I pay for moving services?
Your move is typically determined by where you are moving to, the length of the move, and the size of the move. You will likely not have any additional costs to pay at the end of the move unless you have requested additional services for the move.
Are you allowed to move pets?
Your mover will not take pets on the truck with him or her. It is your responsibility to move the pets with you.
How can I expect a quote to be given?
Some moving companies may give you a soft quote over the phone or Internet, but you do not want to rely on these quotes. In fact, you need to receive a quote in person, so that the company can actually see what it is that you need moved. If you do receive a quote over the phone, you may find hidden fees or you may be invoiced for surprise charges.
What if the movers damage my home?
If your home is damaged during the move, you will need to follow the proper steps to file a claim and have the damages reimbursed. It is important that you work with a company that has insurance to ensure that they will cover the costs if something is damaged in your home.
How do I know if the movers will arrive on my move day?
You will have a contract in place once you have hired the moving company and your movers will show up. If you want to double check for your peace of mind, simply call the company beforehand and ask what time the movers will arrive at your home.
If you have moving questions that are still unanswered, we recommend that you contact the moving company directly and speak with them. The above questions are the most commonly asked ones and we hope that they helped you.
