Storage Tips for Restaurants and Caterers
If you own a restaurant or you have a catering business, you will come across a point in time where you need to store some of your items in a storage unit. These items will likely be ones that are seasonal or you do not need until a request for it comes in. There are certain ways that you should store your restaurant and catering items to ensure that they do not become damaged while you are away. Below, we will go over some tips to help you store your items properly.
- Storing Your Supplies and Inventory
When it comes down to it, you will have a lot of supplies to deal with. Restaurants and caterers must carry a ton of supplies to meet the demands of their business. Some of the items that you will need to find room for include silverware, wine, beer, aprons, uniforms, notebooks, pens, and much more.
If you have a closet or two in your restaurant you may have been stashing these items in here, but you are sure to run out of space quickly. If you are a caterer, you may have just been placing these items within your trunk and let’s face it, that is not the ideal place for these items.
- Storing Your Seasonal Items
If you have seasonal items that are used in your restaurant or catering business, you will find that you do not have room to simply leave them lying around when it is the off season. You should place these items in storage and group them together based on the season. For example, you can have a storage shelf that has all fall and winter items on it and another shelf with spring and summer décor on it.
- Storing Your Cups and Glassware
As a caterer or restauranteur, you need to have plenty of glassware and cups on hand to ensure you can feed any size crowd, but it is not often that you will need to use all of your glassware and cups all at once, so you need to keep them stored away.
To store these items, you should wrap them tightly in bubble wrap and then follow up with an outer layer of newspaper and tape it together. When it comes time to place the items in a box, consider using a box that is made to hold plates, bowls, and cups. These boxes are much stronger and have unique cutouts to house your breakables.
- Storing Specialized Items
If you are used to throwing birthday parties or wedding parties in your restaurant, you may need a place to store the decorations until the next big event. Make sure you place these items in your storage unit and fold any table cloths up nicely and wrap any breakable décor in bubble wrap.
If you are a restaurant or caterer, you can benefit from using a self-storage unit. You will find that placing your items in storage will free up room in your restaurant or office space and you will be able to function much better without the clutter.
